Business Days accuracy and testing

This page documents how Calwarden builds trust for this calculator: source notes, regression-style default tests, limitations, assumptions, unit handling, rounding, and visible change history.

Formula source

  • The algorithm starts from the selected start date, moves forward one day at a time until it reaches the end date, and counts only weekdays. That means it excludes the start date itself and includes the end date if that day is Monday through Friday.

Test cases

Default input regression check

Generated from the checked-in default inputs and calculate function.

Inputs

  • Start Date: 2026-09-24
  • End Date: 2026-10-01
  • Holiday Calendar: opm_us_federal_2026
  • Manual Excluded Days: 0

Expected outputs

  • Business Days: 5 days
  • Total Calendar Days: 7

Known limitations

  • Holiday presets are source-dated planning references and may not include private, agency-specific, emergency, or local closures.

Assumptions

  • Business days are defined here as Monday through Friday only.
  • Source-dated holiday presets can exclude recognized weekday holidays, and manual excluded days remain editable.
  • The count excludes the start date and includes the end date when the end date falls on a weekday.

Unit handling

  • End Date accepts calendar dates.
  • Holiday Calendar accepts one of the configured options.
  • Manual Excluded Days accepts numeric values.
  • Business Days is displayed in days.

Rounding rules

  • Number displays use up to 2 decimal places in the calculator UI.
  • Input precision follows configured step values where provided.
