FHIR Resource Viewer accuracy and testing
This page documents how Calwarden builds trust for this calculator: source notes, regression-style default tests, limitations, assumptions, unit handling, rounding, and visible change history.
Formula source
- Recursive traversal of JSON object or XML DOM.
Test cases
Default input regression check
Generated from the checked-in default inputs and calculate function.
Inputs
- FHIR Content (JSON or XML): { "resourceType": "Patient", "id": "example", "name": [ { "use": "official", "family": "Chalmers", "given": [ "Peter", "James" ] } ], "gender": "male", "birthDate": "1974-12-25" }
Expected outputs
- Resource Structure: JSON Path | Value | Type; resourceType | Patient | string; id | example | string; name[0].use | official | string; name[0].family | Chalmers | string; name[0].given[0] | Peter | string; name[0].given[1] | James | string; gender | male | string; birthDate | 1974-12-25 | string
Known limitations
- This is a structural viewer, not a profile validator. It does not check if the resource adheres to US Core or other implementation guides.
Assumptions
- This viewer focuses on structure only and does not validate conformance to FHIR profiles, implementation guides, value sets, or terminology bindings.
- JSON parsing uses the browser parser and XML parsing uses DOM traversal, so the output reflects the payload structure rather than business meaning.
- Flattened arrays are shown with positional indexes, which is useful for inspection but does not guarantee how another application will map or persist those paths.
Unit handling
- FHIR Content (JSON or XML) accepts text values.
Rounding rules
- Number displays use up to 2 decimal places in the calculator UI.
