Base64 Encapsulator accuracy and testing

This page documents how Calwarden builds trust for this calculator: source notes, regression-style default tests, limitations, assumptions, unit handling, rounding, and visible change history.

Formula source

  • The ED data type structure is: `Source Application^Type of Data^Data Subtype^Encoding^Data` Example: `^Application^PDF^Base64^JVBERi0xLj...`

Test cases

Default input regression check

Generated from the checked-in default inputs and calculate function.

Inputs

  • Data / Text: Hello World PDF Content
  • Content Type: PDF (application/pdf)
  • Input is already Base64?: No

Expected outputs

  • OBX Segment: OBX|1|ED|Document||^application^PDF^Base64^SGVsbG8gV29ybGQgUERGIENvbnRlbnQ=||||||F

Known limitations

  • This page documents the checked-in calculator logic and does not certify results for every real-world edge case.
  • Use the result as a planning estimate unless the calculator page states a stricter purpose.

Assumptions

  • When **Input is already Base64** is off, the tool uses browser text encoding with `btoa`, so it is best suited to plain text examples rather than raw file uploads.
  • The generated segment is a simple OBX example and does not validate local implementation-guide requirements, length limits, or document metadata.
  • The selected content type labels the ED components, but the tool does not inspect the payload to confirm it truly matches that media type.

Unit handling

  • Data / Text accepts text values.
  • Content Type accepts one of the configured options.
  • Input is already Base64? accepts Yes/No values.

Rounding rules

  • Number displays use up to 2 decimal places in the calculator UI.
