MLLP Wrapper accuracy and testing
This page documents how Calwarden builds trust for this calculator: source notes, regression-style default tests, limitations, assumptions, unit handling, rounding, and visible change history.
Formula source
- The MLLP standard wraps the message data block as follows: `<VT> Data <FS> <CR>` * **<VT> (Vertical Tab):** ASCII 11 (0x0B). Signals start of message. * **<FS> (File Separator):** ASCII 28 (0x1C). Signals end of data. * **<CR> (Carriage Return):** ASCII 13 (0x0D). Signals end of block.
Test cases
Default input regression check
Generated from the checked-in default inputs and calculate function.
Inputs
- HL7 Message: MSH|^~\&|EPIC|HOSP|LIS|LAB|202310261200||ADT^A01|MSG00001|P|2.5
Expected outputs
- Visual Representation: <VT>MSH|^~\&|EPIC|HOSP|LIS|LAB|202310261200||ADT^A01|MSG00001|P|2.5<FS><CR>
- Hex String: 0B 4D 53 48 7C 5E 7E 5C 26 7C 45 50 49 43 7C 48 4F 53 50 7C 4C 49 53 7C 4C 41 42 7C 32 30 32 33 31 30 32 36 31 32 30 30 7C 7C 41 44 54 5E 41 30 31 7C 4D 53 47 30 30 30 30 31 7C 50 7C 32 2E 35 1C 0D
Known limitations
- This page documents the checked-in calculator logic and does not certify results for every real-world edge case.
- Use the result as a planning estimate unless the calculator page states a stricter purpose.
Assumptions
- This tool wraps the text you provide with the conventional MLLP start and end bytes only; it does not open sockets or transmit the message itself.
- The hex output represents the current browser string content byte-by-byte and is intended for inspection or manual testing, not as a full transport simulator.
- Local implementations can add additional connection rules such as keepalive behavior, TLS, retries, or site-specific acknowledgement expectations, which are outside this wrapper.
Unit handling
- HL7 Message accepts text values.
Rounding rules
- Number displays use up to 2 decimal places in the calculator UI.
