HL7 v3 / CDA Viewer accuracy and testing
This page documents how Calwarden builds trust for this calculator: source notes, regression-style default tests, limitations, assumptions, unit handling, rounding, and visible change history.
Formula source
- DOM Parsing with Attribute extraction.
Test cases
Default input regression check
Generated from the checked-in default inputs and calculate function.
Inputs
- HL7 v3 / CDA XML: <ClinicalDocument xmlns="urn:hl7-org:v3"> <realmCode code="US"/> <typeId root="2.16.840.1.113883.1.3" extension="POCD_HD000040"/> <templateId root="2.16.840.1.113883.10.20.22.1.1"/> <title>Patient Health Summary</title> <effectiveTime value="20230101"/> <recordTarget> <patientRole> <id root="2.16.840.1.113883.19.5" extension="996-756-495"/> <patient> <name> <given>Henry</given> <family>Levin</family> </name> <administrativeGenderCode code="M" codeSystem="2.16.840.1.113883.5.1"/> </patient> </patientRole> </recordTarget> </ClinicalDocument>
Expected outputs
- XML Structure: XML Path | Value | Type; Error | Parsing Failed | ReferenceError: DOMParser is not defined
Known limitations
- Does not render the CDA narrative block (HTML). It displays the raw data structure only. Not a validator.
Assumptions
- This viewer focuses on XML structure only and does not validate document conformance, template IDs, Schematron assertions, or implementation-guide rules.
- The flattened output shows where values live in the XML tree, but it does not infer clinical meaning beyond the raw path and attribute names.
- Narrative sections, namespaces, and very large documents may still require manual review or a dedicated validator when exact conformance matters.
Unit handling
- HL7 v3 / CDA XML accepts text values.
Rounding rules
- Number displays use up to 2 decimal places in the calculator UI.
