Lean Body Mass accuracy and testing
This page documents how Calwarden builds trust for this calculator: source notes, regression-style default tests, limitations, assumptions, unit handling, rounding, and visible change history.
Formula source
- This calculator uses the **Boer Formula**, considered one of the most accurate predictive equations: * **Men:** LBM = (0.407 × W) + (0.267 × H) - 19.2 * **Women:** LBM = (0.252 × W) + (0.473 × H) - 48.3 Where W is weight in kg and H is height in cm.
Test cases
Default input regression check
Generated from the checked-in default inputs and calculate function.
Inputs
- Gender: Male
- Height: 175 cm
- Weight: 80 kg
Expected outputs
- Lean Body Mass: 60.1 kg
- Est. Body Fat %: 24.90%
Known limitations
- Predictive formulas are averages. Extremely muscular individuals (bodybuilders) may have their LBM underestimated.
Assumptions
- The estimate relies on predictive formulas rather than direct body-composition scans.
- Inputs such as height, weight, sex, and body fat are used as simplified proxies for lean tissue.
- Real lean mass can differ when hydration, training status, or measurement quality changes.
Unit handling
- Gender accepts one of the configured options.
- Height accepts values in cm.
- Weight accepts values in kg.
- Lean Body Mass is displayed in kg.
- Est. Body Fat % is displayed as a percentage.
Rounding rules
- Number displays use up to 2 decimal places in the calculator UI.
- Percent outputs are displayed with two decimal places.
