How this calculator works

Each unemployment period is counted inclusively from start date through end date. Blank or invalid periods count as zero. Total unemployment days are subtracted from the entered limit.
Used unemployment days = inclusive days across entered unemployment periods. Remaining unemployment days = unemployment day limit - used unemployment days.

Inputs explained

Unemployment start dates

Dates when an unemployment period began under the assumption you are modeling.

Unemployment end dates

Dates when an unemployment period ended. This model counts the end date.

Unemployment day limit

Editable day threshold, such as the limit you are modeling for post-completion OPT or another scenario after verifying the actual rule.

Understanding your results

The primary result is estimated remaining unemployment days. A negative number indicates the entered periods exceed the entered planning limit.

Example scenarios

Two unemployment periods

A 12-day first period and a 9-day second period produce 21 estimated unemployment days. With a 90-day limit, 69 days remain.
