Sensitivity preview

Target Year Current: Total Residency Days 136 days

Planning Threshold -10%: Total Residency Days 136 days

Planning Threshold Current: Total Residency Days 136 days

Logic: Total residency days = sum of each entered stay period overlap with the target calendar year, using the selected arrival/departure counting assumption. Days above/below threshold = total days minus the user-entered threshold.

About this Residency Days Calculator

Many immigration, residency, tax, school, and benefit rules depend on how days are counted. Use this calculator to total days from stay periods you enter, then compare them with an editable planning threshold.

  • Applicants preparing a physical-presence timeline before professional review.
  • Families comparing trips against a simple annual day threshold.

When to use it

  • Total days in a target calendar year from multiple trips or stays.
  • Check whether a user-entered threshold is close enough to need extra review.
  • Create a transparent calculation note before completing an application or tax worksheet.

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter the target year and the threshold you want to compare against.
  2. Paste one stay period per line using YYYY-MM-DD to YYYY-MM-DD.
  3. Choose whether arrival and departure days count.

How this calculator works

For each stay period, the calculator finds the overlap with January 1 through December 31 of the target year. It counts inclusive days when arrival and departure days are included, or subtracts boundary days for each overlapping stay when they are excluded.
Total residency days = sum of each entered stay period overlap with the target calendar year, using the selected arrival/departure counting assumption. Days above/below threshold = total days minus the user-entered threshold.

Inputs explained

Target year

Calendar year to count, such as 2026.

Stay periods

One date range per line, using a start date and end date in YYYY-MM-DD format.

Day threshold

Editable comparison number, such as 183 days or another rule you want to model.

Include arrival and departure

A user-selected counting assumption. Official rules may count partial days differently.

Understanding your results

The total days show the overlap between your entered stays and the target year. Being above or below the threshold is only a planning signal, not an official residency determination.

Example scenarios

Two-stay year

Entering 2026-01-10 to 2026-03-10 and 2026-09-01 to 2026-11-15 counts the days in those periods that fall inside 2026.

Cross-year trip

A stay from 2025-12-20 to 2026-01-12 contributes only the overlapping January 2026 days to a 2026 count.

Key Features

  • Instant Calculation

Things to Keep in Mind

This calculator does not determine domicile, lawful status, tax residency, continuous residence, exceptional circumstances, treaty positions, or eligibility for immigration benefits.

Tips & Best Practices

  • Keep source records such as I-94 history, boarding passes, passport stamps, leases, and calendar entries.
  • Confirm whether the relevant rule counts partial days, transit days, medical days, exempt days, or absences.
  • Separate overlapping or duplicate records before relying on the total.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can this prove legal or tax residency?
No. It only counts days from entered date ranges. Residency can depend on legal status, intent, domicile, treaties, exceptions, and official records.
How should I enter multiple trips?
Use one range per line, such as 2026-01-10 to 2026-03-10. The calculator counts only the part of each range that overlaps the target year.
Does Calwarden save my travel history?
No. The calculation is client-side and uses the text you enter in the browser.
