Assumptions

  • The calculators use transparent formulas rather than vendor-specific sizing or compliance models.
  • Inputs are processed locally in the browser and are not stored by Calwarden.
  • Security monitoring scope and retention can be compliance-sensitive; confirm log source coverage with security and compliance owners.

Endpoints -10%: Daily SIEM Volume 168.48 GB

Endpoints Current: Daily SIEM Volume 173.52 GB

Endpoints +10%: Daily SIEM Volume 178.56 GB

Formula: Daily volume = sum(source count x GB/day per source) x growth factor. EPS = daily bytes / average event bytes / 86,400.

About this SIEM Data Volume Calculator

SIEM sizing is easier when source counts and per-source volumes are separated. This calculator estimates daily GB, monthly GB, and event rates from local assumptions.

Who this calculator is for

  • Healthcare IT, interface, integration-engine, PACS, security, and compliance teams doing first-pass planning.
  • Analysts documenting transparent assumptions for logging, monitoring, de-identification, or interface reliability work.
  • Hospital and clinic leaders comparing local volume, staffing, retention, and pricing scenarios before a vendor or governance review.

When to use it

  • Turn local log, message, study, monitoring, and staffing assumptions into practical planning numbers.
  • Compare current state with a target coverage, reliability, retention, or workload scenario.
  • Document formulas behind a budget request, compliance workplan, interface remediation plan, or operational review.

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter counts, rates, prices, retention periods, and staffing assumptions from your own tools or contracts.
  2. Replace defaults with local measured values whenever available.
  3. Review the primary output, then use secondary outputs to understand the operating drivers.

Key assumptions

  • The calculators use transparent formulas rather than vendor-specific sizing or compliance models.
  • Inputs are processed locally in the browser and are not stored by Calwarden.
  • Security monitoring scope and retention can be compliance-sensitive; confirm log source coverage with security and compliance owners.

How this calculator works

Daily GB is the sum of each source count multiplied by its GB/day rate, then adjusted by growth buffer. Average EPS converts daily bytes into events using average event size.
Daily volume = sum(source count x GB/day per source) x growth factor. EPS = daily bytes / average event bytes / 86,400.

Inputs explained

Volume inputs

Counts of logs, messages, studies, instances, interfaces, sources, or monitored assets for the period.

Rate and effort inputs

Failure rates, peak factors, rework, review time, processing time, and staff availability should come from local measurements.

Price and policy inputs

Retention days, storage multipliers, and unit prices are user-entered because contracts, policies, and vendors vary.

Understanding your results

Security monitoring scope and retention can be compliance-sensitive; confirm log source coverage with security and compliance owners. Results are planning estimates and do not replace legal, privacy, security, compliance, clinical, or vendor-specific review.

Example scenarios

Planning example

1,400 endpoints at 0.03 GB/day plus servers, network devices, and cloud apps can easily exceed 100 GB/day once a growth buffer is included.

  • Instant Calculation
  • Private & Secure
  • Mobile Optimized

Tips & Best Practices

  • Use measured values from production tools when available.
  • Run separate scenarios for high-volume interfaces, after-hours coverage, migrations, and audit periods.
  • Validate privacy, security, retention, and compliance decisions with the responsible governance teams.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are logs, messages, or patient data stored?
No. These calculators use the counts and assumptions you enter locally in your browser. Do not paste PHI, credentials, or real message payloads into planning inputs.
Can this prove HIPAA or regulatory compliance?
No. The results are planning estimates. Validate policies, safeguards, contracts, audit controls, and regulatory interpretation with qualified compliance, privacy, security, and legal reviewers.
Why are prices and assumptions user-entered?
Healthcare IT pricing, retention policy, staffing models, message volume, and monitoring requirements vary by organization and vendor. User-entered assumptions keep the math auditable.
