De-identifier accuracy and testing
This page documents how Calwarden builds trust for this calculator: source notes, regression-style default tests, limitations, assumptions, unit handling, rounding, and visible change history.
Formula source
- The scrubber uses regex to find the PID segment. It then splits the fields by the pipe `|` delimiter and overwrites specific indices (PID-2, PID-3, PID-5, PID-7, PID-11) with dummy data.
Test cases
Default input regression check
Generated from the checked-in default inputs and calculate function.
Inputs
- Raw Message: MSH|^~\&|APP|FAC|...|...| PID|1|12345|12345^^^MRN|...|DOE^JOHN||19800101|M|||123 MAIN ST^^CITY^ST^00000|...
Expected outputs
- Anonymized Message: MSH|^~\&|APP|FAC|...|...| PID|1|999999^^^MRN|999999^^^MRN|...|MOUSE^MICKEY||19500101|M|||123 DISNEY WAY^^ORLANDO^FL^32830|...
Known limitations
- This page documents the checked-in calculator logic and does not certify results for every real-world edge case.
- Use the result as a planning estimate unless the calculator page states a stricter purpose.
Assumptions
- This tool only edits a small set of PID fields in a simple pipe-delimited message and leaves the rest of the message unchanged.
- It does not inspect NK1, GT1, IN1, OBX, NTE, Z-segments, attachments, or free-text narrative fields for identifiers.
- The output is intended as a starting point for manual review, not as a claim of full de-identification or regulatory compliance.
Unit handling
- Raw Message accepts text values.
Rounding rules
- Number displays use up to 2 decimal places in the calculator UI.
